Antique 1909 Embossed Birthday Postcard | Flower-Covered Automobile, Roses & Forget-Me-Nots | Made in Germany
Antique 1909 Embossed Birthday Postcard | Flower-Covered Automobile, Roses & Forget-Me-Nots | Made in Germany
There is a lot happening on this little birthday postcard.
An early automobile nearly disappears beneath red and pink roses, blue forget-me-nots, pearl-like blossoms, and gold decoration, with “Many Happy Returns of the Day” suspended above the whole exuberant arrangement. The card is heavily embossed, with glossy and metallic-looking details that catch the light far more than a flat scan can show.
Made in Germany and mailed in 1909, the postcard retains its handwritten birthday message, Wisconsin postmark, and original one-cent Franklin stamp. The reverse is embossed deeply enough that the automobile and flowers can still be seen in relief.
This is not a pristine collector copy. It has substantial age and handling wear, including a pronounced corner bend, but the wonderfully surreal artwork remains bright and display-worthy. A particularly fun piece for framing, collage or assemblage, vintage automobile imagery, or anyone whose preferred birthday transportation involves an unreasonable quantity of flowers.

Condition
Condition: Fair antique condition with significant wear. There is a pronounced bend/crease at one upper corner, including surface cracking/creasing extending into the printed area, and another corner shows chipping/loss and heavy wear. Edges and corners show considerable rubbing, softening, small losses and general handling wear. There is additional age toning and surface wear consistent with a postcard that was mailed and handled more than a century ago.
The central automobile and floral illustration remains colorful and attractive, and the embossing, glossy finish and decorative details remain quite striking. The reverse retains the handwritten message, address, postmark and original stamp.
Please review all images carefully for exact condition. This is best suited to display, framing, creative use, or a collection where visual appeal is more important than pristine condition.
