Post Card Grading Guide

Postcard Grading Conditions

Mint (M)

  • Like-new condition with no noticeable flaws.
  • Colors are vibrant, edges are sharp, and corners are pristine.
  • No marks, creases, stains, or signs of handling.

Near Mint (NM)

  • Almost like-new but may have minimal signs of handling, such as slightly dulled edges or faint wear.
  • Free from major flaws like stains, creases, or writing.

Excellent (EX)

  • Light signs of age or gentle handling, such as faint corner wear or subtle discoloration.
  • May have minor marks or faint writing on the back that doesn’t detract from its appearance.

Very Good (VG)

  • Moderate signs of wear, including soft corners, minor edge wear, or light creases.
  • May feature light stains, fading, or small areas of writing (e.g., a short note on the back).
  • Still visually appealing for display or collection.

Good (G)

  • Noticeable signs of wear, including rounded corners, visible creases, or small tears.
  • May have more significant writing, noticeable discoloration, or minor soiling.
  • Best suited for historical interest or as filler in a collection.

Fair (F)

  • Heavy wear, including prominent creases, tears, stains, or writing that detracts from the postcard’s aesthetic.
  • Some portions of the card may be damaged, but it remains mostly intact.

Poor (P)

  • Extensive damage, such as large tears, missing pieces, heavy soiling, or severe creases.
  • Primarily of historical value or suitable for crafting or restoration projects.

Additional Notes

  • Postmarked/Stamped: Indicate if a card has been sent through the mail, as this may impact its appeal to certain collectors.
  • Writing or Annotations: Specify if writing is present on the front or back (e.g., personal notes, addresses).
  • Unused: A postcard with no writing or postmarking.
